LEAGUE FOOTBALL MR. L. HUNTER ADDRESSES REFEREES

A record number of referees ever to assemble on the West Coast together with members of the board of control, coaches of various clubs and club captains, listened to an address on refereeing by the co-manager (Mr Lance Hunter of the Kiwi team) on his recent tour- of England and France. He referred to the rules which were piayed in England and he was of the opinion that a united meeting of referees should be held. The dress in England the referees wore was black shorts and a white shirt. They did not play the advantage rule as played in New Zealand. His speech lasted fully one hour, and various questions were put to him and answered. Mr J. Griffen was in the chair and a vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr J. Conaghan. who was a keen supporter of the code. The resignations of Messrs W. Moore and F. Malloy were received with regret. It was decided to write to them, thanking them for, their services. Three new members elected were Messrs J. Bullimore Ng there) R. Crase and C. O’Flaherty (Hokitika). The secretary reported thathe has now written to each centre in New Zealand asking for their support in holding a meeting of delegates in Wellington of the referees to go into uniformity of rules. The names'of J. Griffen, J. P. Mathews and T. F. McKenzie have been sent forward as nominees for the trial games and the North v. South game. Two accounts were passed for payment and' it was decided to meet again on May 1, in Greymoulth. WEST COAST SELECTORS Messrs J. Oakley (Greymouth) .1. Dodds (Blackball) and R. Clark (Ngahere) have been elected West Coast senior selectors. There were seven nominations. From eight nominations. the following have been elected senior reserve selectors: Messrs J. McNaughton (Blackball). T. Freeman (Cobden) and T. Watson (Runanga).
