Russians Close Railway To Allies’ Coal Supply

(Rec. 9.50). BERLIN, April 2. The Russians on Thursday night closed the hundred miles of railway between Berlin and the Russian zonal check-point, at Vorsfelde, which has hitherto, been used for the carrying of military coal supplies from the Ruhr to Berlin. This means that the military coal supnlies will have to be moved along the Helmstecit-Madgeburg-Berlin line, which until now has been used only by passenger trains.

Russian troops established a roadblock in the outlying part of the British sector of Berlin, and the Russians there refused to move when requested to do so by a senior British officer. Later they withdrew without incident —when they were surrounded by about four hundred British troops and by armoured cars.
