STRENGTH NEEDED TO PRESERVE FREEDOM

SAYS Canadian Premier 14clcr (Received April 2, at 9.0 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 2.

A threat to freedom loomed on the world’s horizon once again, said the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, who, with President Truman and the Governor-General of Canada, Viscount Alexander, received honorary degrees from the William and Mary College, at Williamsburg, Virginia, to-day.

“It is vital to the defence of freedom to maintain a preponderance of moral! economic and military strength on its side,” added Mr. MacKenzie King. “Security for individual nations, including our own, can be assured only by the effective cooperation and the united power of the nations that are still free. To achieve this great end, is the task of statesmanship to-day.”
