ATHLETICS N.Z. APPLYING FOR EMPIRE GAMES

WELLINGTON, April 1

Confirmation that the New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games Association has decided to make a. tentative application for the 1950 Empire Games to be held in New Zealand was given to-day by the chairman of the association. Mr A. D. Bayfield. He said it was hoped that whether New Zealand could handle the games would be known in tune for the application to be made at the time of the Olympic Games, when representatives of the Empire countries would meet in London to decide on the venue.

New Zealand’s case at that meetingsaid Mr Bayfield, would be. presented by Mr I). T. Woodfield, manager of the Dominion’s team. The association, in t/.e- meantime, was awaiting information of proposals being made by Christchurch for holding the games in that city.
