Greymouth Births Show Increase in Past Quarter
More births and fewer deaths are the main features ot the vital statistics for the first quarter of 1948 as compared with the same period for last year. In the first three months of this year there were 119 births whereas last year the number was only 111. This year there were only 38 deaths compared with the 42 recorded last year.
Marriages this year however seem to have declined. For the first quarter of the present year there were only 28 marriage notices issued from Greymouth, 11 less’ than the 39 issued last year. There was also a decrease in the number of marriages performed by the Registrar the figure this year being nine and for the last year, 10. MARCH FIGURES
The figures for March show a different position when compared with those for March 1 47. This year in the past month there were 38 births while there were 34 lasi. year. There were 14 deaths for March. 1948, and 15 the previous year. Marriage notices issued increased too, the comparative figures being 12 for March this year and 11 for March last year. Marriages performed by the Registrar in Greymouth for the third month oi 1947 totalled one whereas this year there' were four, comparatively a large increase.
