U.S. Export Control Over Aircraft and Guns

WASHINGTON, March 26. President Truman to-day imposed tight controls on the export of aircraft and aircraft parts, classing them with other war material. White House issued a Presidential proclamation, revising as from April 5 the list of articles which cannot be shipped from the United States except under special licence. It designates such items as small arms, ma-chine-guns, fire-control equipment, and range-finders, as well as aircraft. Congressmen had been clamouring for tightened export controls since the disclosure this week that some aeroplane engines sold by the United States Government as was surplus, were eventually sent to Russia by private buyers. Mr. Truman’s action means that nobody can lawfully export aircraft or aircraft parts without specific Government permission.
