(Rec. 11.0) BATAVIA, March 24. According to the A.N.E.T.A. News Agency, a state of emergency was declared on Sunday, March 14, on Biak Island, off the north coast of Dutch New Guinea. This followed on an attempted coup by Indonesian extremeists. The situation is now under control.

Forty Indonesians have been arrested. Further arrests are expected. j Biak Island was an Allied wartime base for the operations leading ea the invasion of the Philippines.
