l Our Own Correspondent.] Driver Frank Rochford who has been serving in the Middle East, has cabled to his sister, Mrs. T. Benyon, of Kumara, that he is safe and well. In a letter, Private Frank Holm, who left with the Main Body and is a prisoner of war in Italy, says: “We have vol into the New /ear once again. I hope you all had a good time for Christmas and 1 hope the New Year will bring us together again. We had quite a good Christmas ourselfes, thanks to our cooks and Red Cross parcels. For dinner we had roast meat, rice and pumpkin, with tomato puree dressing; followed by a rice pudding with raisins and fio-s >n it. After dinner we had a ■mine of Rugby. About three o'clock ten of us got together and had a spot of afternoon tea. Some of us made sandwiches of jam, sardines, cheese, etc. Our chaps made a cake, and we also had oranges, chocolates and cigarettes. For tea,. two ‘’Other
chaps and myself, from our Red Cross parcels, shared, bully beef, green peas, boiled onions, and mashed potatoes which were followed by prunes and custard. Not bad lor P.O.W.S, eh? In the evening- our camp orchestra put on a concert for us. Got a Red Cross clothing parcel—shirt, undies (woollen) three pairs sox, hankies, jersey, towels, razor blades, and chocolate.” Frank wishes to be remembered to all of his friends at the Taramakau Settlement, and in Kumara.
