ABOUT OIL DISCOVERY IN NEW GUINEA. [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received September 14. 8.30 p.m.) CANBERRA. September 14, The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. J. A. Lyons, in the House of Representatives. to-day declared that payable oil had not been discovered in Dutch New Guinea, nor in the Commonwealth. Mandated Territory. Mr Lyons’s statement was made in reply to a suggestion by a Labour member, Mr Ward, on Saturday last that the Government had suppressed a discovery of oil in New Guinea and that it had also given information of a discovery to a private company, which had' recently begun operations on the Stock Exchange.
