SWIMMING.

TO-MORROW’S CARNIVAL. Interest in to-morrow’s Swimming Carnival is increasing apace, and by the lime the first event is ready for starting, a record crowd for the Cobden Baths should be assembled. Plenty of variety has been infused into the programme and word has been received from Hokitika, Reef ton. Ross ami Blackball that teams will be competing from their various districts. One of the main features of the day will be the appearance of Mr Keesing, exchampion diver of N.Z. Mr Keesing has promised that he will perform a novelty dive that has only once been seen in the Dominion. The heavyweight race, the “big” part of the programme, has drawn record entries, and such old-time favourites as Dumble, Beban, McKechnie, Kettle, and Co., will once more be seen in their native element. TO-MORROW’S HANDICAPS. The handicaps for the men’s 100 yards and fifty yards for tomorrow’s carnival are:— 100 yards Handicap.— Malloy, Keesing, Fielding scr., R. Griffen 2, B. Quinn, Lind 4,1). Sir,— In reply to “Interested,” the Committee of the West Coast Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association have gone fully into the matter 1 d it will relieve your correspondent, and any other nervous parties, to know that the aquaplaners are experts in this

particular branch of aquatics, and that ample provision has been made for the performers’ safety. In the event of any person getting his or her foot wet by the wave caused by the terrific speed, a special stall is being run that will provide dry footwear and stockings for those inconvenienced, at a payment of a small fee.—l am, etc., SECRETARY OF CENTRE
