UNELTPLYOYFDDEMONSTRATION. MAY BE DROPPED AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. jo. Representatives of the unemployed, after a talk with Mr C. P. Agar, the President of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday’, gave an assurance that the\ would use their influence with the men to prevent demonstrations taking pla< when the Duke of York visits Chris* church. Mr Agar’s argument was that the men had nothing to gain, and every - thing to lose, by such a demonstration. This at. length prevailed. He told the unemployed leaders that demonstrations would not help them to influence those who were apathetic towards the unemployed, rn.i would pre bally disgust and antagonise those at present willing to help. NEW ZEALAND PROGRAMME DISSECTED. MELBOURNE. February 2. A wireless from the Renown states;-— The Renown left Suva punctually at 10 o’clock. The weather is becoming more bearable as the vessc. proceeds soeth. At a staff conference with Captain Boyle, of New Zealand. the New Zealand programme was thoroughly dissected. After minor alterations it was accepted.
