PER CITY OF MELBOURNE. FEARFUL EXPLOSION AND LOSS OF LIFE. [press agency.] Auckland, Dec. 27. The City of Melbourne, from Sydney, Capt Brown, reports leaving on the 20fch. When the Sydney Government found that Hall was unable to comply with the terms of the contract, they chartered the City themselves to take the months' mails to San Francisco, and sent her via Auckland, because it was understood the New Zealand Government had refused to send the mail by theCyphrenes. The captain awaits instructions from Wellington as to whether to call at Kandavau or go straight on to San Francisco. Passed the Colima in the passage across.
