The stock markets are dull, and the wool sales have been postponed until the 17th February in consequence, of the elections. The price of wheat is dropping, owing to large expected arrivals. America has shipped half a million quarters during the past three weeks. Adelaide wheat is depressed, with few transactions. The present cash quotations for Australian copper are L9l to L 92. The tin market is heavy and unsettled. Straits tin is now quoted at Llls ; Australian at Lll3. Flax is lower. There has been a sale of Adelaide wheat at 6s ; large quantities are offering at Cs Id, without buyers. Flour, Ll3 15s to Ll4 7s 6d. February 1. General Wolsely and the British forces under his command reached . the river Prah on the Ist January. About an hour after his arrival he was met by ambassadors from the King of Ashantee, bearing letters asking for peace. Sir Garnet Wolsely said he would only treat with the King himself at Coomassie, whereupon the ambassadors returned. The Fifth (Naval) Brigade crossed the Prah on the sth of last month. January 31.
