Wellington, Oct. 6. Mr Mason, an old settler, died suddenly in the street to-day. At Wanganui, the price of store cattle is unchanged in value. One hundred and ninty-three head were sold, at 64s 6d. Fat cattle, 20s per lOOlbs ; good fat halfbred wethers, 12s to 14s ; inferior, 7s to 10s. Christohurgh, Oct. 6. Holders of wheat demand 4s 9d ; but no sales at that figure. Barley : only prime malting samples moveable, at former quotations. Oats : a steady demand for home consumption and shipment ; prime Canadians, 2s 7£d to 2s 9d ; inferior, 2s 2d to 2s 6d. For potatoes, there is a free inquiry, at L 3 10s. Dunbdin, Oct. 6. Mr M'llroy, proprietor of the Gridiron Hotel, was found dead in rear of the Golden Age Hotel this morning. It is supposed he fell down the steps and broke his neck. The Tuapeka people petition the Government to commence the construction of public works. The Lawrence people offer to set apart a commonage worth L3OOO, to guarantee the cost oi the works. Wheat quiet, at 5s to 5s 3d ; but none offering. Oats dull, at 2s to 2s 3d. Barley firm, at 33 9d.
