Melbourne, July 26. Some excitement was caused by the picking up of a head-board supposed to belong to the ship Macduff, but it has since been shown that it was lost when going home. The Lincolnshire narrowly escaped being wrecked inside the Heads. In a heavy gale she parted her anchor and dragged over six miles. The Marquis of Normanby and party have been fated by the Mayor in the Town Hall. A romantic marriage has taken place between Miss Ilsdin, a well-connected heiress, with Barney Thomson, the betting man. Mr Walsh has been horsewhipped publicly by Mr Simpson for alleged impropriety of conduct to a female relative. A locomotive boiler has burst. The concussion was felt three miles away, and was believed to be an earthquake u ntil explained. Rose, the levanting clerk of the National Bank, got four years' imprisonment. The Corporation of Melbourne has recommended the Government to bring in a Contagious Diseases Bill. A Gipps' Land Railway Company is forming. The North- Western Canal scheme is progressing. Sandhurst is proclaimed a city. The Velocidade's and William's cargoes of grain are not yet marketed. Michael Tracey has been stabbed fatally by a paramour, Julia Robins, who has been committed for trial. Sydney, July 26. No English mails were brought by the City of Melbourne, as all letters and papers were addressed by the LondoH Post-office, via New Zealand, The City Bank has declared a dividend equal to 5 per cent, and the Bulli Coal Company 12£ per cent., and preferential shares 10 on original shares. Fiji papers state that a Supreme Court has been inaugurated. The Leivoni rebels have formally submitted to Thakombau. Mr Burt, Premier of the Constitutional Assembly, promises to resign if a vote of want of confidence was passed.
