Bluff, Aug. 1. The s.s. Alhambra arrived this morning. AMr Hutcheson, saloon passenger, died suddenly during the voyage. There is considerable excitement in commercial circles on the fiscal policy of the new Government. A deputation of soft-goodsmen interviewed the Government in reference to drawbacks on exports, and requested that the duties should be collected by measurement instead of ad valorem. The Government declined to disclose its fiscal policy till it came before the House. American importers succeeded in getting the Commissioner of Customs to reckon a dollar at 3s 9d instead of 4s. The Ministerial banquet at Sandhurst was a success. The Lincolnshire arrived with the Marquis of Normanby, Governor of Queensland, the Marchioness and suite. Woods, in the Assembly, proposes to sell the Government railways and extend railway 'communication with the proceeds.
