May 6. The Court of High Commission has practically concladed its labors, and is only awaiting the action of the English Cabinet, when a treaty will be submitted to the Cabinet. Tho conditions are not definitely known, but it is believed that the Canadian fisheries rights and the navigation of the St. Lawrence will be conceded to America for a specified indemnity. No reciprocity to Canada has been conceded by the United States. : The Alabama claims will be submitted to a special commission, and the claims
of British subjects through the acts of the rebel States will be put on the same footing. The questions of the north-west boundary and title to San Juan Island will be submitted to arbitration of the Kings of Belgium, Italy, and the President of Switzerland, and the treaty will be signed on the 9th May. It is said the temper of America is against the mode of settlemenf of the Alabama claims. Mrs Laura D. Fair has been convicted of the murder of her late paramour, the ! hon. Mr Critendon. It is probable that | she will receive a commutation of the senI tence to imprisonment for life. Floods have occurred at New Orleano, and caused immense loss of sugar. Herr Bandmann was badly received in Virginia.
