FURTHER PARTICULARS OF THE FLOODS.
DITNEDIN, Nov. 7. A private telegram from tbe Melbourne Argxus, dated 6.30 p.m. on the 31st., says : — Further accounts are coming in of floods and destruction of property. The telegraph has been down in Gippsland, and is only just now opened. The following has just been received from Bairnsdale : — The river is overflowing its banks. The crops are destroyed, and the people are removing from the flat country. The river is still rising. Fears of a great flood at Echuca. At 2 p.m. the water was ten inches higher than the last great flood, and was was still rising fast. No traflic is expected by the mail for the next ten days. The postman was drowned. There has been great destruction of property, and fears of further damage are entertained. News received from Adelaide, to-day, states that accounts continue to come in of damage by floods, and flour is firmer in consequenoe. The Spec arrived at Hobart Town today, from Lyttelton. The Volunteers talk of disbanding. At Sydney, this day, there are complaints of rust appearing in the wheat crops. This causes the corn market to harden, and it closed very firm, with a i tendency to further improvement. (
