COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.

(to the editoe.) Sir — There appears to exist in the minds of some people an idea that no provision is made for the day on which, the election for the members of the County Council shall take place. How such an idea, could arise in the mind of any person who had had an opportunity of reading the County of Westlaud Act is, I confess, rather curious, as that Act defines, in as clear a manner as an Act of Parliament can, the day for the election. I would recommend the writer of the leading article in the Westland Independent of Saturday to read the 23rd, 37th, and 40th clauses of the County of Westland Act, and he will find that the returniug officers of each electoral district must give notice of the election 14 clear days before the second Thursday in December, aud that in such notice he shall appoint a day not less than four or more than seven days after such notice for the nomination of candidates, and in the event of a poll being demanded such poll shall take place on the day of election. Therefore, for the coming elections the notice will have to be on the 24th November, the nominations on the 28th, or any day from that day up to the Ist December, and the poll on the Bth December. I must be allowed to express some surprise at the " mare's nest" your contemporary has formed, although his short career may plead some excuse for his gross ignorance. I am, &c, Elector.
