THE ROAD BOARD.
(To the Grey River Argus.) Sir I was present at a Meeting of the Road Board the Evening Mr Whall proposed that the Opinion of Mr Akin the Surveyor should be invited with regard to the Most practable line to form a Trunk Road from saltwater to niaori Gully & that it was not untill Barnhill stated that ho beleaved Mr Akin had never been over that portion of the Country & therefore could uot Give the Bord any information that the words you Referd to were used it was not the Ability of Mr Akin that was in di<scusson but his knowledge of the district i with regard to the Imputation you Cast upon the whole of the Members of the Road Boord includeing the Town En* gineer I leave the public to decide, but in the opinion of many they are without foundation & quite uncalled for. I think that you as an Editor- & as a Reporter should be more Carefnll I am &c Geo. Simmons. [We print Mr Simmons' letter, but we may simply state that Mr Simmons was ■not present at the meeting when the remarks regarding Mr Aitken were made, which were reported in ourissne, of the 11th inst.
