Wellington, Thursday, 7.17 p.m. The debate on 'Mr, Ward's resolutions lias not yet concluded.- Last .night the Premier expressed a wish that the^Hoiise should come" to some, determination today ; but the desire is- not likely to be gratifiocl.' The Government have intimated that if Stamp Duties were not imposed, the Provinces would have to receive 50 much less than their three-eigliths.of Customs revenue ; but have since declared their intention to stand or fall by the re- • solution 'in favor of. Stajnp Duties. The Government have 'promised, to reduce the , tariff by £50,000 if the Provincea* are willing to take so much ltss than, the' three-eighths. The Stamp Duties aro likely to be carried, by a majority of 27.. Mr M'Lean, has moved, for leave to bring in a Bill to annex- Poverty Bay to • Hawke's Bay. The debate, is now on.
