LYTTELTON REGATTA.

A meeting of the committee was held on Saturday night, at which Dr. Macdonald, the commodore, presided. The Collector of Customs replied that he consented_ to the Government steam launch following the Champion Outrigger Race as a safeguard for the crews of the boats. Mr Mcßeth reported that being unable to find the time for collecting subscriptions, he had sent out post cards, several of which had been answered by remittances. The finances were gone into at length, and it may be stated that everyone who has promised to subscribe, or intends contributing to the funds, should do so promptly, there being a very considerable deficiency. _ The committee decided to send flagship tickets to subscribers and to no others. These tickets will entitle the holders to a passage to and from and admission on board the flagship, which, on this occasion, will be the steamship Rotorua, as the Union Company has kindly put the steamer at the committee’s service, and there being between 200 and 300 regular subscribers to the regatta, the committee propose to reserve the flagship to subscribers only, and admission on board will be by ticket. It was also decided to take a new departure with respect to the judges’ and officers’ stand at the coming regatta. In the past the races were judged from the " committee ship,” and the same degree of interest in the starting and finishing of the events was not secured to the public as was desirable. To remedy this the flagship will be also the committee ship, and Mr Puflett, who, as manager for the Union Company, has taken a great interest in the arrangements, has promised to set apart the bridge of the steamer for the use of the judges. He has also arranged to have a luncheon prepared on board for the convenience of ticket holders. The committee’s boats will be in attendance at the ship. Mr S. R. Webb, the newly returned Mayor of Lyttelton, was present at the meeting, and stated the reasons which had prompted his letter declining to offer a cup as a special prize. After some explanation Mr_Webb withdrew the letter, and agreed to give the Mayor’s cup as usual. At his wish it was added to the money prize in the pair-oar race. The committee meet to-morrow (Wednesday) night.
