CRICKET.
UNITED C.C.C. SECOND ELEVEN v PAPANUI. This match was commenced Saturday. The first-named side went in first, and scored 127, E. J. Ross making 50, H. H. Mathias 27, R. Harman 16, Cocks 13, and Cox 11. Papanui succeeded in mtting together 107, principally owing to the exertions of Barnes and the Horner family, G. Horner, a youthful scion from a good cricketing stock, making 25 (not out) in excellent style, whilst his still younger brother, P. Horner, kept up his wicket as last man. The principal scores for Papanui were—Barnes 31, J. Horner 12, and G. Horner 25. The match will be continued next Saturday.
MIDLAND SECOND ELEVEN v ADDINGTON SECOND ELEVEN. On Saturday the Addington Club through their second eleven took a partial revenge for the defeat of their first eleven by the Midland. In their first innings the Addington just doubled the score of their opponents, making 136 to the Midland 63. For the Midland Lawrence made 23, Monk 13 and Fairhnrst 10. For the Addington A. G. Ashby scored 50, C. Seager 23 and A. Cant 19. The match will be continued next Saturday.
LANCASTER PARK SECOND ELEVEN v OXFORD C.C. (CHRISTCHURCH). Some heavy scoring took place on Saturday in this match on Lancaster Park Ground, the home team keeping at the wickets all day, and putting together the large score of 365 for the loss of six wickets. V. Hamilton topped the batsmen with the fine figure of 111 ; then came Hassal with 76 (not out), and following close on him came Francis with 67. Cooper made 41 (not out), and G. Reeves upwards of 20. The fielding of the Oxford C.C. was very loose, and the hitting of Lancaster Park was distributed with the o-reatest impartiality ; for instance, Francis made 19 runs off two consecutive
overs. LANCASTER PARK JUNIORS v CATHEDRAL C.C. A match was played last Saturday between an Eleven of Lancaster Park Juniors and the Cathedral school C.C., which resulted in a draw in favor of the L.P.C. The scores were as follows: —Cathedral C.C., first innings, 7S ; L.P.C., 113. For the Cathedral Reeves batted well, while Woodward did the best bowling. For the Park, Dunlop batted and Griffith bowled very well. UNITED RAILWAY C.C. v WOOLSSTON C.C. A match was played on Saturday last between the above-named clubs on the ground of the latter. The Railway men only mustered seven men, but proved successful in putting the others through. The Railway C.C. scored 09; the Woolston C.C., 47. The principal scoring for the Railway team was done by G. Turner, who made 34 (not out). For the Woolston C.C. Fay made 11 (not out). The bowling of McGregor was very effective. MERIVALE (2nd) v ST. ALBANS (3rd). A match was played on Saturday between the second eleven of Merivale and St. Albans’ third eleven, which proved an easy victory for the former by one innings and 1 run. The following will represent the Midland ' C.C. in their match against the Leeston C.C. to-day (Tuesday), play to commence at 10.30 a.m. sharp:—Messrs Bell, debourne, Garby, W. Horner, J. Horner, Hunt, Judge, Lawrence, Row, Tyrwhitt and Whiting.
