[reuter's telegrams.] MELBOURNE, November 30.

Shipping wheat has advanoed to 5s 7d, and is now very strong. Malting barley shows some improvement. Messrs Goldsborough and Co., Limited, report that they have sold 4700 bales at their wool auctions this week. Prices have been firmly maintained. Greasy wools have brought from 7d to Is Id, and washed from Is 4d to Is 9Jd, according to quality and condition. The good attendance of home and foreign buyers continues, and a very brisk competition has been experienced.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having catalogued 3000 bales at their wool sales this week; of this quantity 2400 have been sold. There has been a good attendance of buyers and brisk competition, although no specially good lots have been offered. In sympathy with the London market, lower classes of wool are easier. A torchlight procession and display of fireworks was given in honor of the Australian cricketing team to-night.

SYDNEY, November 30.

Sailed, this afternoon, the B.M.S. Australia, for San Francisco, via Auckland. Much excitement prevails in East Sydney, on account of the preparations for the approaching general election., which, it is believed, will be closely contested. The proceedings, are, however, perfectly orderly.

The election of four members for East Sydney constituency took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Messrs. Reid, Boiton, Griffiths, and McElhone. Sir HPartes and Dr. Ken-wick were defeated. Great excitement prevails in the city tonight.
