AUCKLAND v ASHBURTON.

[from our correspondent/] Tms Day. The Auckland men arrived in Ashburton from Timaru by the 10.45 train, and immediately proceeded to the Domain, play commencing shortly after eleven o'clock. The Ashburton captain sent in Reeves and Thomas to face the bowling of Buckland and Dufauro. Buckland sent down a maiden, and in the next over Reeves was unfortunately bo-.vled off his pad by Dufaure. CasteUi,the next man,made no stand sending one from Buckland in his wicket. Simpson took Castclli's place, but was run out without scoring. Wilding now joined Thomas, and a stand was made, but, after contributing G, Thomas was run out. Raine, Denshire, Maud, and Pixley all failed to score. On A. Pooks joining "Wilding runs began to come, but Fooks sent "back an easy one into Buckland's hands, who of course held it. Andrews came next, and made 6, when he wa3 well caught by Buck land. Strachey [joined Wilding, and the two made things lively for a while, and brought the score up to 87 before they were separated. After making 11 Strachey*s -wicket was well taken by a good ball from Buckland, the score now being—ll—l1—

87. Buchanan joined Wilding, and the two played together till the lunch adjournment, the score then heing 92 for eleven wickets, Wilding being not out for 50, a 1 mad-: by good cricket. On play being resumed after lunch. Buchanan received a couple of balls only from Buckland, when he hit his wicket — 12—1—92. Curtis filled the vacancy, and by steady and careful play helped to bring up the century, this being the first 100. After making 11 he hit his wicket—l3 —11 —ll9. Hosking, the last man, added a couple, when he was bowled by Lankham, the innings closing for 124.
