[per press association.] AUCKLAND, November 23. Mr Ritso, agent of some English capi talists, who, it is expected, may bo induced to take up the construction of the Thames and Te Aroha railway, has come up from Wellington, and will visit the Thames. John Welch, whose leg was crushed in the bush on Saturday, died at the Hospital yesterday from the limb mortifying. The deceased had steadily refused to have his leg amputated.
NAPIER, November 22. Hr. Spencer, the present Mayor, was the only nomination for the Mayoralty to-day. From the fact that thirty engineers have applied for plans and descriptions of the Napier Harbor, it is thought that a good many designs for improvements works will be sent in. The accepted design obtains .£SOO. . , . Fine weather has now set in, and shearing, which has been seriously retarded by the late unusual rains, is actively going forward. NELSON, November 22. Mr Hursthouso. M.H.R., addressed his constituents at Upper Mautere last niglit. He received a vote of thanks and conlidence. On tlie preceding night no spoke at Motuoka, and was paid a similar compliment. GREYMOUTH, November 22. From private advices it is learned that tenders have been called for in Melbourne to know at what rate 10,000 tons of Greymouth coal can bo conveyed from here and delivered in Melbourne. WELLINGTON, November 22. Messrs Andrew Young and George Fisher were nominated to-day for the Mayoralty. The election takes place on the 29th. Tasman has been scratched for the Wellington Cup. KATAPOI, November 22. A design, under the motto “ Kaiapoi,” by Mr Otto Peez, out of four for the new bridge at Kaiapoi, was approved by the Borough Council last evening, subject to its approval by the Government Engineer, and that the accepted contract should not exceed Mr Peez’s estimate. The second best design was under the motto “ Iron.”
