Mr G. Lawson’s Muskat, lOst 101 b ... 3 Stockings, Lindhurst, and Schoolboy also ran.
The lot got away well together. Schoolboy leading past the Stand at the back of the course. Schoolboy, who had a strong lead, ran round a hurdle, and Captain and Stockings then took possession. At the turn to the straight the field closed xxp, but Musket and Captain again shot forward. On neaxdngthe Stand Brenda ran up and challenged Captain, the mare winning a good race by a length. Musket third.

Messrs Bishop and Lemon’s Fair Noll ... 3 The whole six animals colored on the card started. Contessa and Mors led to the straight, when Marchioness Neil was lying third, and Fair Nell fourth. Mors’ bolt was then shot, and he gave place to Fair Nell and Marchioness Neill. A magnificent race now ensued between Contessa, Fair Nell and Marchioness Neill, tho former winning by half-a-leugth, a neck separating tho second and third. Ashburton Cup (Handicap) of 125 sovs, added to a sweepstake of 5 sovs each for acceptors, tho second horse to receive 15 sovs from the stake; nomination, 2 sovs; acceptance, 5 sovs; one and a half miles. Mr J. Pilbx-ow’s Welcome Jack, Bst 121 b 1 Messrs Mason and Vallance’s Turquoise, Bst 51b 2 Messrs Bishop and Lemon’s The Curate, 7st 21b 3 Specclation, 6st 91b 0 Curate cut out the running, followed by Welcome Jack, Turquoise last. Speculation led round the bend. Turquoise still last. The latter then improved his position and soon collared Welcome Jack. Coming round the bend the lot were all togother. Turquoise leading into the straight. Welcome Jack in close attendance. Half way up the straight Jack again got on terms, and coming away won pretty comfortably by a length and a half. Curate third. Time, 2min 4-Ssocs.
