At the turn to the straight the field closed xxp, but Musket and Captain again shot forward. On neaxdngthe Stand Brenda ran up and challenged Captain, the mare winning a good race by a length. Mr J. Pilbx-ow’s Welcome Jack, Bst 121 b 1 Messrs Mason and Vallance’s Turquoise, Bst 51b 2 Messrs Bishop and Lemon’s The Curate, 7st 21b 3 Specclation, 6st 91b 0 Curate cut out the running, followed by Welcome Jack, Turquoise last. Speculation led round the bend. Turquoise still last. The latter then improved his position and soon collared Welcome Jack. Coming round the bend the lot were all togother. Turquoise leading into the straight. Welcome Jack in close attendance. Half way up the straight Jack again got on terms, and coming away won pretty comfortably by a length and a half. Curate third. Time, 2min 4-Ssocs.
