Thursday, October 26.

The meeting hold at the Racecourse, Rangiora, yesterday, was an immense success, and was favored with the most beautiful weather. The train from town was crowded, and the surrounding districts also were well represented. A very large attendance was consequently present, probably 3500 in all. The stand and appurtenances recently erected by the Domain Board were all well patronised, and are a credit to the district. Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin’s totaliaalor was on the ground, and was kept going all day, and put through £1695 without a mistake. The instrument gave thorough satisfaction to the public. The sport was excellent, and good fields were the order of the day. The following are the results of the day’s racing : —• Hurdle Rack Handicap of 40 sovs; 2 miles, > over eight flights of hurdles. Mr H. Lunn’s ch g Canard, 5 yra, list 71b (Lann) 1 Mr H. Cassidy’s bk m Levant, aged, lOat 51b (MoConkey) 2 Mr H. Stark’s b g Barbary, 6 yrs. 9st 71b (J. Martin) 3 Waikari was scratched.

Betting 3 to 1 bar one. Barbary showed the way over the first hurdle in fine style, followed closely by the remaining two. At the seo nd hurdle Barbary baulked, and Canard toek up the running. Barbary, quickly in the meantime, on the second time of asking, took hia jump, but the mistake lost aim a lot of ground. With hard riding ho caught Canard before entering the straight, and the two passed the stand neck and neck. Canard led round the back stretch, still closely followed by Barbary, Levant a few lengths away, bringing up the rear. On reaching the turn Barbary’s bolt was shot, and Levant wont up and challenged the leader. A pretty race ensued up the straight, terminating in a clever half-length win for Canard, Barbary a bad third. Totalisator pool 96—54 on the winner. Sheenan) 0 Chester, Barbary, and Waiaari got away well together, and ptsted the stand in a cluster, Chester slightly leading. . At the next hurdle the latter baulked, and Barbary and Diomede* then went clean away from the rest of the field. Barbary having the foot of his remaining opponent won in a oanter by three lengths. After a lot of trouble the lot were got away to a very indifferent start, Trumpeter being loft at the post altogether, Mor, Turquoise and King Quail were the quickest on their feet. Mor led past the stand, but Holderness then west up, and took possession, and led round the back stretch several lengths in advance of Mor, Turquoise lying third. Shortly after Turquoise took second place, and at the same time Quail, improving his position, ran up and collared Holderness. A magnificent setto ensued up the straight, when at the distance Turquoise came through the two and pa»sed the post, an easy winner of a little better than a length from Holderness, King Quail throe lengths off, third, Blue Jacket fourth. The lot got away to a good start, with Maid of Honor slightly in advance. This she retained until passing the stand, when Pippin took first place, and led round the back stretch, Mor lying second, and Maid of Honor third. Thenceforth the race was never in doubt, and ultimately Pippin won as he liked from Mor by two lengths, Maid of Honor third. Totalisator pool 173—72 on the winner.

Pepper, 7st 61b, was scratched. In an indifferent start, Rebecca and Trumpeter were the quickest away. Bebeooa led past the stand, followed by Levant and Trumpeter, Turquoise fourth. Trumpeter had possession for a short time at the back of the course, then Aurora and Bebeooa took possession. The two entered the straight well in advance of Turquoise, who, however, was gaining at every stride. At the distance he came through the mares, and, 'mid much excite-

Pippin led past the stand with Farewell in close attendance, Problem third. No alteration occurred until entering the straight, when Farewell challenged, and in a good fioish won by a length from Pippin, the same distance separating second and third. Total!sator pool 223 —34 on the winner. The District Handicap Race of 10 sovs was won by Mr Busch’s Spec, beating ten others. Totalisator pool 76—22 on the winner.

Consolation of 15 save, one mile, was won by Rebecca, Bit 21b ; Ocean Bird, 6st, secondj Supplejack, 9s t, third, Totalisator pool 103— 63 on the winner.
