In default of payment of fines, the usual terms of impri sonment. Pbtti Labobnt. George S. Thome* (nine), who had previously been before the Court for a similar offence, was charged with stealing two oranges, the property of Alex Goesters. He was severely admonished end discharged. ALLKGBD ABSAXTI.T INTHB SYKAQOOUH,— Maurice Harris, president,and Charles Louisson, treasurer of the Christohuroh Jewish congregation, were charged by H. E. Nathan with assaulting him in tha Bynagogue on the evening of September 13fch, the Jewish New Year. Mr Watson appeared for complainant, Mr Joynt for the defendants. Aooording to the plaintiff, he, while sitting in a seat which he had occupied unchallenged for eleven months, was ordered to leave it and take another, whioh plaintiff deolined to do. A constable was sent for, but he refused to i interfere. The President then oollared , plttintiff, and, with the assistance of the treasurer, put him out of the building. The dispute arose over the payment for pew rent, about whioh an immense quantity of most uninteresting evidenoe was taken. The case ) for the defence was that the plaintiff had , taken possession of a seat to which his pay 1 merits did not entitle him. On the day in question ha had been rescinded of this, and requested to take a seat that bad

In giving judgment, the Bench said that the affair had arisen from the oontumaoiout obstinacy of the plaintiff in persisting to occupy a pew in dt fiance of the offioors of the ohurch, thus bringing on him•elf whatever damage had bee.i done. The oase wu diimiaaed, plaintiff being ordered to pay oostsj solicitor's fee, £3 33, and 12s expenses of one witness, Mr Victor, who desired the money to bo handed to the hcij ital. Hughes wore eaoh fined 10s; for rreventing other cabmen getting fares, Wm. Surrey acd Jas Q-ilbert were fined eaohlOj.; for loitering with his oab, James Q-ilbert wn fined 10s. —For allowing a horse to wander, A. O. Joeling was fined 103. Robert Frame and James Watson for fighting at the Sawyers' Arms on September 15th, were fined eaoh 10s.—Jgmes Milligan and George Ti let, larrikins, for fighting on Latimer square on the evening of tiaptembsr sth, were fined eaoh £1 and coats. - A case against George Hefford, for falling asleep in his dray while it was proceeding along Papanui road, was adjourned for one week.— Peter Antonio pleaded guilty to being drunk in a railway oarriage, and was fined £2 and oosts. —J. J. Alexander, for leaving his vehicle unattended, was fined £l.—George Dodds, for wheeling a handcart on a footpath, was fined sa. Alex. Johnson was oharged with driving a loaded oart across a footpath on Tuam street east on September 18th.
