("By Tbmkjbaph.J [Per i.B. Te Anau, at the Bluff.] MELBOUKNa, September 20. The ship Bt. Leonards arrived at Calcutta from Lyttolton on August 14th. The Melbourne Omnibus Company's Bill, to empower them to oonstmot tramwayp, make* alow progress, meeting strong opposition at erery stage. The cattle from New Zealand, par s.s. Te Anau, larded in splendid oondition, and were much edmired. The oomet is still brilliant, and is visible at the Observatory at noon with a telescope. It is expected that in a day or two it will be visible to the naked eye in the evening. There is much rejoicing here at the news of the oapture of Arabi, and the victoiy of Tel-el Kobir. Sir Bryan O'Loghlen, on behalf of the Government hn sent a oable message to Mr Gladstone congratulating the English Government on the successful result of the campaign and the close of the war. A torchlight procession was held last evening in honor of the event. Mr Mirams, a member of the Assembly, while inspecting the proposed railway line, was struok on the leg by a stone thrown up through a blrsting by dynamite. Erysipelas set in, and he is unable to leave his room for the present. Great interest is shown in the oass of Annie Stent, who died suddenly at the house of Dr. Barker. The body was exhumed, and a post mortem examination was held, at which the jury returned a verdiot—"That although she might have gone to Dr. Barker's for the purpose of procuring abortion, there was no evidence to show the actual oause of death. The action of the coroner in not oiling on Dr. Barker to givj evidence at the inquest has exoited much comment. Several papers urge the necessity of a farther inquiry. Mr Mao Donald, contractor, who had sued the Bank of Australasia for nondelivery of the building materials of the old Bank at Fitzroy, was nonsuited, on tho ground that, although a verbal agreement was made by Mr Morrah, the general manager, there was no formal agreement with the seal of the Bank attaohed. SYDNKY, September 20. The Espiegle has arrived, and all the vessels on the Australian station are now here except the Sandfly, Beagle, and Renard. Sir H. Farkes' health is better. As soon as he is well enough he will be removed to his mountain house at Faulconbridge. Bishop Redwood, from Wellington, is at Bathurst, and preached at the Cathedral there on Sunday last. ADELAIDE, September 20. Discontent is very prevalent among the South Australian Volunteer foroe at tho proposed changes in the regulations. Meetings have been held and the question has been keenly disoussed. It is believed that, if the Government insist on thara, the whole of the foroe will resign en masse. BRISBANE, September 20. Captain Webb, of tho schooner Pride of the Logan, put into Bootless Inlet, Nob Guinea, and accused the natives of stealing a piece of rope and a little tobacco. Ho then fired on a oonoe full of natives, and killed a boy and wounded a man. The matter is in the hands of the authorities. Suoh conduot is incentive of the massacre of white men by the islanders. Dissatisfaction is shown in Queensland at the Chinese being allowed to seleot sugar lands, which they are doing to a large extent. The Australian Steam Navigation Company's steamer Ranelagh struck on a reef while enteriiig Bowen yesterday. She was got c£f, but the oaptain, finding her dame g d, beached her on a sandbank. The passengers and orew are all safe.
