He was returning from Tapanui with a horse, and was the worse for liquor. It is conjectured he died of exposure. . A man named Anderson, with several aliases, was wanted by the police yesterday on a charge of passing a valueless cheque. _ The detective went after him, and arrested him in the act of passing a second one to a barber. The refrigerating machinery at Burnside Works has been tried, and acted quite successfully. Operations begin this week. One farmer, Mr Shand, has contracted to supply 150 sheep daily. News from the Garrick Range reports that the last shot on the claim of Asher and party is turning ont remarkably well.
