LOYALTY OF ROYALTY.
It ia somewhat interesting to note that during the present Egyptian crisis there should be so many royal heads apply for leave to assist her Majesty ia the time of need, and still mora satisfactory to her subjects, as displaying that amount of loyalty to the throne, when in the midst of all luxury they would ra her leave their palaces for the din snd horrors of war. Lot us instance, in the first piece, that of the application of the heir to the throne requesting h«r Majosty to allow his Royal Highness as Field-Marshal to accompany the troops. This, as was naturally supposed, was refused by her Majosty, undoubtedly through the influence of the Cabinet. On July 13th we next find the Dal e of Connaught, as Colonel of the Rifle Brigade, applying for a similar appointment ; but vrhelbor that permission was granted we have no further advices, and thus take it his offer was graciously declined. Not so with Prince Arthur, who, as Lieut.Colonel of the Rifle Brigade, accompanied the Scots Fusiliers on the last day of the month j whilst but a day or two prior we learn that their royal cousin, the Duke of Teck, was to hold a commission on the staff of Sir Garnet Wolseley. -
