[RETJTER'S TELEGRAMB.] MELBOURNE, July 26. Malting barley is in fair demand at last quotations, 5s 2d to 5s 4d; wheat is fiim, and shipping parcels are selling at 6s 8d to 6s 9d; New Zealand oats are easier, and feed are quoted at 4s to 4s 2d, and milling sorts at 4s 2d to 4s 3d. The weather has been most inclemont during the past twenty-four hours, and snow has fallen in Melbourne. Messrs McLean Bros, and Bigg deny the statement which has been current that they have sold the premiiM in Collins street which they recently purchased from Messrs Briscoe and Co. Mr Bent, Commissioner of Railways, in reply to a deputation which waited upon him to-day, stated that the Government were determined to endeavour to retain the trade of Riverina, and that, with this object, certain reductions in the tariff would shortly be proposed. The Intercolonial Champion Ploughing contest, under the auspices of the National Agricultural Society of Victoria, commenced to-day. The weather was unfavorable, but some excellent work was done by the competitors. Judging will take place to-morrow. SYDNEY, July 26.
One case of sickness is reported from Waterloo, a suburb of this city, which is supposed to be smallpox. The house has been isolated, and the occupants have been quarantined, in case the illness should prove to be smallpox.
