At a monster meeting in Exeter Hall, prior to the debate on the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill, a resolution was seconded by Mr G. W. Wa-erhouse in favor of the Bill.
The progress made in hop-growing in New Zealand is creating great anxiety amongst the English growers. Ch B. Powell, lecturing before the Royal Colonial Institution on June 13 th on the Imperial defence, recommended the following as fortified coals depots:—Barbadoee, Gibraltar, Ascension, Natal, Mauritius, Aden, Singapore, King George's Sound, Auckland, Fiji, Hong Kong, Antiqua, the Falkland Islands, Diego, Qarica, Labuin, and some island in the Pacific en route from New Zealand to Panama.
