SOUTH WAIMAKARIRI BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
The usual moufchly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. Present— Messrs R. W. England (in the chair), Win. Attwood, W. Boag, H. W. Ferjmßn and H. Atkinson. Apologies were made by the secretary on behalf of MessroJ. L, Wilson and F. Jsnes, who were unable to attend. Mr Lambert took his seat at a later period. Mr Boßg reported having inspected Mr O, James' holding, and recommended that hit request to be allowed to break up portions of the reserve be granted. The Board gave per* mission accordingly. The Secretary reported having made the return aßked for by the Registrar-General—-viz., of the receipts asd expenditure of the Board for the year ending 31st Maroh last. He also reported that the committee appointed to consider what suggestions should be made to the Government with regard to the proposed alteration, in the constitution cf 100 il bodies had met and replied to the circular from the Government. The committee's action was confirmed. The overseer's report for the past month, was read and received. It stated that the men were still engaged planting willows at No, 15 embankment, a p lentiful supply of which had been obtained. It alio reported several freshes in the river since 16th Jane, the last one being the largest which hu l occurred for the past two years. No damage however had been done ta the embankinentf beyond the toppling over of four large ecricrete blocks at No. 14 embankment, *hiclt had since been repaired. The men jrere now making active preparations for the new groin a-Qhaney'a corner. Th? ovejseer alio recom--1 raendeb?-that the tiraekcipsi of the Board ehould be paid iixpenca p C . day extra, which the Board agreed to. The works coffmittee's report was then .read and received. It detailed ■ visit of the committee to the reserves net the Halketl township. They found that parts of them had been seriously flooded, the river running in channels over them. The reservss being narrow at this point, and ljing at the foot of a terrace 60 or 70ft high, the committee did not reoommend any expenditure for the purpose of protecting them. A letter was read from the Templeton Road Board, asking for permission to remove shingle from the Board's reserves. The matter was left in the hands of the work* committee. Mr Boag drew attention to a letter whiob. had appeared in one of the papers with reference to the removal of boulders from the river banks. After some conversation it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Peryraan, seconded by Mr Atkinson—" That on and after Ist August next, no person shall be allowed to remove boulders or gravel from the rive* bed of the Waimakariri without first jb-.uis-iuj! a permit from this Board." The secretary was instruoted to advertise the resolution, after which the Board adjourned;
