HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The ÜBual meeting of thia Board was held yesterday, at 4 p.m. Present—Dr. Prine (in the chair), Dr. Turnbull, and Mr J. E. March, secretary. The hospital committee reported that during the fortnight ended July Bth, eighteen patients were admitted into the hospital, snd twenty-three discharged, leaving sixty-three patients in the inatitution. During the same period one death had'occurred. For the corresponding period of 1831, forty-four patients were in the hospital. The Government wrote, notifying the appointment of Mr Hobden as dispenser, vie? Mr Hawkes, resigned. Foot patients were stated to be in the Akaroa Hospital, and one in the casual ward, LvtteltoH. The master of the Orphanage reported that during the month of June there were no admissions. One girl had been withdrawn, the present numbers being—Boys, 50 ; girls, 42; total, 92. The receipts for the quarter had been £2O 6s. Dr. licDcr&lrl reported that atate of health at the Orphsiiage during the past quarter had been good, that even the weakly children had been wonderfully free from sickness, the only ?evera case of illness being that of a boy who, at the commencement of the quarter, had a severe attack of rheumatism, any other cases being chronic or of a trivial character. The pi ovisions uupplied were of good quality, and the allow* anoe, as served, ample. It was reported that the Ashburton Home contained thirty-nine inmates, two of whom had been admitted during the past week. Dr. Doyle reported that on the Ist of June he was in attendance on thirty eight patients, exclusive of those at the Immigration Barracks and the Police Depot, of whom sixteen had remained on his books since 1881, the others having coma under his care between January and June ; that during the month of June twenty-three new cases had come under his care (ei elusive of confinements), of which eleven are still under treatment, twelva having been cured. Four confinements were also attended during June, in regard to which there waa nothing special to note. A number of charitable aid oases were then considered, after whioh the Board adjourned.
