At the Harbor Board meeting to-day a letter was read from the Now Zealand Refrigerating Company, stating that the company had contracted to deliver from 250 to 280 tons of frozen mutton early in September to a steamer from London at Port Chalmers, and in view of this, asking that the depth c£ water alongside tho wharves there should be increased, to allow a steamer of 2000 tons to load there without touching tho ground, The matter was referred to the works committee. ... Mr James Hume, who has been superintendent of the Lunatic Asylum hero foj eighteen years, but has retired, consequently I upon tho appointment of Dr- Neill as medical superintendent, was to day presented by a number of the public with a tea and coffee service, &o. all admitted that since the last inquiry the food had improved.
