DISMISSAL OF A SCHOOL TEACHER.

IFBBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] DUNEDIN, June 16. The Education Board has now puhliihed the whole correspondence between itself and Mr Farnie, who has been discharged for writing a letter to the pres# commenting upon the appointment of Inspector Goyen. The Board first wrote asking if he had written the letter. He replied, refusing to recognise the right of the Board to make snoh an inquiry, but as a matter of courtesy stating that he had done so, and believed he was justified therein. Thereupon the Board wrote discharging him with three months’ notice. This letter concludes—“ As yours is the first case of the kind which has come before the Board, they were anxious, if you made it possible for them to do so, rather to make known their disapprobation of your offence than to deal with it in a more serious manner. In the face of your letter, however, which virtually denies that diicipline ought to be maintained in the service, and also questions the authority of tho Board, they reluctantly feel themselves precluded from passing over the case in this lenient way. They are compelled to take notice that your principles and practice ['on a fundamental question of discipline are irreconcilably at variance with the ideas entertained by themselves, and to recognise that it is not for the advantage of the public service that you should continue to occupy the position which you at present hold in the institution set apart for the training of young teachers.”
