ELECTION OF AUDITORS.
The polling for the election of two auditors for the ensuing twelve months took place at the City Council Chambers yesterday, and considerably more interest was shown than on previous occasions. The candidates were seven in number. Shortly after seven o’clock the votes polled were declared as under: Alport, H. E. ... ... 257 Black, N 189 Jameson, W 183 Craig, T. B 112 Hawkes, J. G. ... ... 91 De Veaux, A. E 50 Bussell, T, Q, ... ... 22 Messrs Alport and Black are therefore elected. The Eeturning Officer stated that five informal papers were received, and that 516 ratepayers recorded their votes. The official declaration of the poll was made by Mr G. W. Lee, Keturning Officer, to-day. On Mr Alport’s motion, seconded by Mr Black, a rote of thanks was passed to the Returning Officer. Mr Jamieson was present, and, whilst thanking the large number of ratepayers who had voted for him, expressed a hope that the result would be different next year, LYTTELTON. The result at the election of auditors to-day was announced by the returning officer, Oapt. Gibson, as follows : Charles Leya ... ... 55 W. Bu Lance 46 B. M. Griffiths .. ... 41 Messrs Leya and Lanoe were therefore declared duly elected.
