THE EXHIBITION.

There was a fairly good attendance yesterday at the Exhibition. The exhibitors availing themselves of Dr. Hacon’s kind invitation, visited Sunnyside Asylum, a report of which appears elsewhere. The latest attraction for visitors to the Exhibition has been the appearance of a little man in livery at the entrance, “ Government Insurance” being written on his dress. There is no mistaking his calling. He obligingly asks all who visit the building to take a card, which is a guide while going through the avenues. Not only on this card will be found a ground plan of the Exhibition, but the rates and advantages offered by the New Zealand Government Life Insurance Department. The well-known firm of Buston, Proctor and 00. are exhibiting the following machinery, just landed ex Waitangi, from London: —A 8 horse-power portable steam engine, fitted with steam jaoketted cylinder lOin diameter, wrought iron wheels and

double shafts j one combined finishing and threshing machine, s£t drum, fitted with wrought iron wheels and shafts, and supplied with 60ft syin driving band ; a circular sawing bench, complete, with 36in saw } and an Sin centrifugal pump, complete. It is to be regretted that these exhibits have reached too late for competition, the vessel the goods were shipped in having made an unususdlj long passage. Messrs Joubert and Twopeny have decided that, on Wednesday, May 31st, and on each subsequent Wednesday, children accompanying their parents shall be admitted at halfprice. This evening, the Musical Society, under Mr H. Wells, will sing Tennyson’s song “ Hands All Bound ” at the Exhibition, and to-morrow a concert has been arranged of all the prize winners in the late concert, under the conduotorship of Signor Sorge.
