THE HOSPITAL FANCY DRESS BALL.

The promoters of the fancy drees ball on behalf of tne fund for the relief of the destitute patients are to he congratulated not only on having afforded us one of the pleasantest balls of the season, but also the most successful fancy dress gathering ever seen in Canterbury. Tbo scene in the ballroom when the opening quadrille was played can scarcely be described. There were all kinds of coatumce, both ladies and gentlemen, which were certainly well worth more particular description than be afforded. Suffice it to say that the whole affair was a complete and assured success, and reflected very great credit on the committee of management. The catering was in the hands of Mr Foster, who discharged his task admirably, and the Austrian Band discoursed splendid music. Anything more than this oouid not be desired, and the whole affair passed off admirably. The representatives of the French Pierrots and of clown, pantaloon, and harlequin respectively filled their parts admirably, without the slightest approach to vulgarity, but full of harmless fun. We append a few of the costumes worn, though, from the request of the committee not having been complied with, many are omitted : F. W. Hales, That Tnlgar Boy; 0.8.
