THE KINGITE MEETING.

[PBE3S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] ALEXANDRA, May 8 With reference to tiis recent vieifc to Mokau, Wahanni says he haa established a good understanding with Te Wetere, who is expected here to-day. Te Wetero asserts that the Ngatitamata tribe, and not himself, were the Natives who pressed on the sitting of the Land Court, Wahanni declared that their claims would easily be demolished by documentary and other evidence, proving that they had been driven to the Sou'h Island, and wore only permitted by Tawhaio to return on sufferance. This permission was first offered by Potatau, but not availed of until after his death Tawhaio renewed it, though a large claimant to the land. It is doubtful whether Wabanui will attend the Court. In reply to a question whether he would do so, he said there was no necessity, as Wetera would act for him and demolish any claims of Ngatitamata. Unless Wahanni attends, however, the work of the judge will bo one of groa‘ delicacy, and may produce trouble. Both Wahanui and Kewi strongly condemn the rescue of the Native prisoners from the police on Saturday night. They had done wrong, and ought to be punished. Information will probably be laid against two half-castes who assisted in the rescue. The distribution of food will probably occupy all day. Several of the Natives from inland have swelled the number at present to probably 1600. Tawhaio came into Alexandra this morning for breakfast at the hotel. He epont all the day in Alexandra. Nothing was done at the settlement. Major jo Wheoro has presented a hundred sheep for consumption. Probably all to-morrow will be spent in bringing them np and prenaring them for the meeting. Talking is deferred till 'Wednesday. Fifty more Ngalirauka have arrived to-day.
