SHOCKING OCCURRENCE AT KAIAPOI.

TBy Telegraph.] [from our correspondent.] KAIAPOI, May I. On Sunday evening the body of a man advanced in life, named Robert Hudson, was found in a clump of gorse bushes on Mr Jones’ farm, near the south branch of the Waimakariri. He had been at Jones’ house on Saturday, and when asked to go in to tea said he would do so, but went away. Jones’ boys thought he had gone to the publichouse, as he had been drinking ; but on Sunday, seeing traces of blood on the ground, they tracked the same to the deceased, whose body lay hidden in a dense mass of furze Sergeant McDonald discovered that Hudson’s throat had been out under the right ear, and apparently the carotid artery severed. A small penknife was found on the deceased, which was however closed, and in the removal to the morgue at Kaiapoi it was lost out of his pockets. An inquest will be held to day.
