BUILDING ENTERPRISE.
Mr Seabright, well and popularly known qs formerly proprietor of the Zetland Arms Ho'el, Cashel street, is proceeding with tho construction of a building, for whioh ho intends to apply for a license in a few weeks' time. 'Xhe building, situated two or throe hundred yards south-west of tho grand-stand at the racecourse, stands on twonty-four and a-half acres of land bought at the following prices :—Four and a-half acres at £lls ; four and a-half acres at £SO ; six and a-half acres (running down to Middle Park) at £62 10s ; and nino acres for a lump sum of £500; making a total of £l6lß 15s. The house, provided with a wide driving entrance, flunked by two gateways, contains some five-and-twenty rooms. The scullery has a concrete floov, and is fitted up with three taps of water. Throughout the building the same attention is shown to details. There are eix bedrooms upstairs, spacious aod airy. The appointments of tho sitting-rooms_ would grace a mansion, one of them facing the , course, giving a close view of a portion or it not a hundred and fifty yards distant. The front verandah would also afford a splendid opportunity for watching the racing. A bt.th-room, with hot and cold water laid on, and a billiard-room provided with a good table, are not wanting. For comfort's sake, all the rooms are furnished with fire places ; and—perhaps, the essential point for health's sake, special care is devoted to efficiont sanitary arrangemoß's, the refuse being carried a couple of hundred yards from the houte. Adjoining is a neat cottage. Tho stables, erected of red brick throughout, rest on foundations which cost £3OO. Each of the twenty loose boxes hoB a 9-in. pipe, by which the premises can be inundated with water from the artesian, stored in tanks over 40ft. high, these holding 2400 gallons. Another box, about 15ft. square, is also provided. But while the horse is well looked after the man is not neglected, two snug rooms being built for the accommodation of jookeys. At the rear of the stables a space is prepared for the reception of the manure, and on this space will flow through a pipe the water used in washing out the boxes. Tho cost of the stables, tho building intended for hotel purposes, and the furnishing is estimated at. about £7OOO. It speaks well for Scott Bros, windmill, which is on the premises, that in four hours it pumps the 2400 gallons required, a steady east wind blowing. In the event of no difficulty arising as to the granting of a lioense, there need be no apprehension that the quality of the liquors, from potest spirits to mild ales, will be good, but those who prefer aqvapura will find a constant flow playing from a oement fountain in the centre of an acre and a quarter of I grass lawn. Mr Beßt, Christchurcb, is contractor for the work.
