OHBIBTOHUEOH. Wednesday, Mabch 8. [Before B. Beetham, Ejq., E.M.J Dbunkbnnbbs. Samuel Ashton and Johanna Gallagher, for being found drunk and committing an aot of indecency in a public place, were sentenced, the woman to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour, the man to be fined £2, or, in default, seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour. Ellen Jordan was fined £l, or, in default, three days’ impriionment. For first offences four men were fined each ss. Using Obscene Language. —David Oliver and David Grevcs, two sailors, for tho above offence towards a railway guard on a trip from Lyttelton to Ouriatohurch, were fined each 10s 4Jd, the odd money being levied to pay the railway fare of ons witness. Labobny. —Arthur Russel was charged with stealing one garden rake and one pair of shears, valued at 15s, the property of T. I. Joynt. Robert Ooatos, gardener to Mr Joynt, deposed that ho had placed them in an outhouse on Febiuary 26th, and afterwards missed them. On March 7th he went with a police officer to the house of accused, and there found the tools. Ho had used them for more than a year. The prisoner stated that they were his property. He had brought the shears with him from England ; the rake had been given to him by Mr Kiver, with whom he had been employed as gardener. The first witness recalled, swore positively to the tools, identifying them by certain marks. Prisoner was remanded till Thursday for the production of further evidence by the prosecution.
