I>BR PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, January 25, Fatal AccidentAlexander Wilkie, mate of the brigantine Eliza Mary, was drowned last night. He was escorting a drunken seaman aboard, when both slipped from a plank connecting the vessel and the wharf. The seaman was picked up at once, but Wilkie was nowhere to be seen. The body ia not yet recovered. Smallpox. The quarantined passengers by the Zealandia will bo admitted to pratique to-morrow. The passenger supposed to be suffering from a mild form of smallpox is quite recovered. MASTERTON, January 25. The Drink Again. A man named Ford fell over his horse last night and was killed. He had been drinking. WELLINGTON. January 25. The Eleven. The English cricketing team arrived at eleven this morning. The match commences at one o’clock. The weather at present is fine, but threatening. Wellington is playing with a strong team. Later. Shaw won the toss, and sent hia team to tho wickets. The weather is fine, but there is a poor attendance at present. The score stands at 8, without the loss of any wickets. Ulyett and Barlow are in. The bowling is good. DUNEDIN, January 25. The Queenstown Fire. Phillip Waldmann, a baker, in whose place tho Queenstown fire broke out, was arrested by the police here, and remanded to appear at Queenstown on Monday next. Bail was fixed, himself in £IOOO, and two sureties in £SOO each. The surroundings are exceedingly suspicious. In a private, unoccupied house belonging to Waldmann a quantity _of inflammable material was found, and his wife came to Dunedin last week, bringing a quantity of household goods with her.
