THE ALL-ENGLAND MATCH. Tho following is the continuation of the game after our going to press yesterday : Ataok next left the pavilion, and after hitting Emmett for a 2 and a 3, fell before Midwinter’s first ball—B4 —15—5. Fairhurat was the next to face the bowlers, and hit Midwinter for 1, and also cut Emmett into Shrewsbury’s hands, but tho chance was declined. Then came a couple of byes. Fairhurst now put up one of Emmett’s, which was secured by Midwinter—B7—l6 —1. Fuller, the last man, next appeared, and snicked the second ball of Emmett’s for 2. A bye off Emmett, 90 up. Fuller put one of Midwinter’s to the on, and then sent a very lofty one up to Bates, which was not taken, and the run was made. Fuller hit Emmett for 2 to the on, A bye off Emmett, then a leg-bye off Midwinter. Off tho next of Emmett’s Fuller made 3, and the century was run up. The first of Midwinter’s next over however took Fuller, and concluded the innings, Fowke being not out 2, Fuller making second score with 10, which comprised a 3 and three 2’». At five o’clock Canterbury went in for their second The light was very bad, which may partly account for the fiasco which ensued. Bates bowled from the gate end, and
i Emmett again trundled from the other extremity. Eowke and J. Fowler went to the j wickets. Tho latter led off by 1 off Bates. ) Emmett bowled a maiden, Bates ditto. Fowler snicked a 2 off Emmett, but did not j succeed in quite stopping the next ball, tor jit rolled on into his wicket —3—l—3J Wilding now appeared. The second ball or . Bates’ next over clean bowled Eowke—3 2—o. Reeves stepped into tho gap. Two leg-byes were made off the second of Emmett’s next over. Reeves was clean bowled by the first ball of Bates’ next over—--5-3—o. Ataok then came to the front and gave a chance to Shaw off the first ball, but it was not taken. The next ball, Bates’ third, found its way into Ataok’s stumps—s —4— 0. Mill ton was next is. Emmett bowled a maiden; Bates ditto. Wilding in the next over was given out leg before —55 —0. Watson now appeared, and played the remainder of tho over. Bates bowled a maiden; Emmett bowled a wide. Millton played down the next over of Bates. Three maidens followed. Watson cut Emmett for 3, but tho next ball but one clean bowled him—B—6—2. Loach now took up the willow ; three maidens ensued. Loach put Emmett away for 2 to log ; three maidens followed, and Leach put Emmett away for a single. Bates bowled a maiden; Emmett ditto. Leaoh cut Bates for 1. A maiden from Emmett, and Millton then broke his own ice by putting Bates away for 1. Emmett bowled a maiden. Loach put Bates away for 1 and Emmett for 1, Bates bowled a maiden and the stumps were drawn, only 15 having been made for the loss of six wickets. Leach’s 6 was very prettily and safely put together, and it is a pity ho could not play his innings out. Millton seemed to puzzle the bowlers considerably _by the stolidity of his defence. McDonnel umpired for Canterbury, and Mr J. Lillywhite for the All England team. On the Englishmen leaving the ground in Mr Millett’s drag, three hearty cheers were given for them, and many good wishes were expressed for their success during the remainder of their tour. Certainly they have shown us a thing or two in the cricketing line, being without doubt the best eleven that have ever visited these shores. As compared with the All England team of 1877, they ore stronger in oil the departments of the game, and their visit has been a great treat to the lovers of thoroughly scientific cricket.
