The Stabbing Case. John Young Henry was brought up before the Conrt this morning on a charge of stabbing Millett at Opunake. Mr Bamnel appeared for Henry. The case is now going on. PATE A, January 5. Sir W. Fox’s Commission. Sir William Fox finished the work of his commission here to-day, granting the chief Taiaroa and his people the reserves for certain concessions. WELLNGTON, January 5, Fatal AccidentThe lad Bindou, who was hurt by the falling of a tree at Masterton, died yesterday. Alleged Arson. James Hargreaves on a charge of setting fire to outhouses belonging to Daniel West at Waiwetu, has been discharged through insufficient evidence, HAVELOCK, January 5. Fire InquestAt the inquest on the late fire at the Masonic Hotel and James Hadfiold Smith’s store held yesterday a verdict was returned that there was not evidence to show how the fire originated. DUNEDIN, January i. Call DeclinedThe Bev. T. B. Cairns, of Sydenham, has declined the call to North Dunedin. The Management of the Lnnatic Asylum. Mr James Hume retires from the management of the Dunedin Lunatic Asylum, with which he has been connected since its foundation. The Presbytery. The Bev. James Maxwell, Congregational minister at Fort Chalmers, applied for admission to the Presbyterian body. The matter was referred favorably to the Synod. INYEBOAEGILL, January 5. last Night’s Fire—Later Particulars. By 1.30 a.m. the fire was got under sufficiently to ensure the safety of the White Swan Hotel, which was several times in imminent danger. The wooden buildings between it and Hanan’s Temple of Science were cleared to a large extent of their contents, and partly demolished before the flames crossed the roof of the Temple, a substantial brick structure. The insurances ore : —North British—£l4oo (portion of whichisreinsured), distributed as follows :—£looo on Roche’s stock, and £4OO on Hanan’s Temple of Science. Transatlantic—£lso on Rogers’ stock. .Transatlantic—£3oo on the Hibernian Hotel. Colonial—£7oo on the stock and furniture of the Hibernian Hotel, £3OO on Boche’s stock, £IOOO on the Temple of Science, £l5O on Baeside’s building ; total, £2150. Northern —£lso on Baeside’s shop. Liverpool, London, and Globe, £2OO on the Hibernian Hotel, £IOO on Campbell’s butchery, £BOO on Mrs Wilson’s stock and building. New Zealand—£looo on Boohe’s building and stock, £3OO on Hanan’s stock, and £SOO on Brown’s (draper) stock ; total, £IBOO, of which £3OO is reinsured in the Colonial, South British—£lso on Boche’s building. Total insurances so far os known, £7200.
