By 1.30 a.m. the fire was got under sufficiently to ensure the safety of the White Swan Hotel, which was several times in imminent danger. The wooden buildings between it and Hanan’s Temple of Science were cleared to a large extent of their contents, and partly demolished before the flames crossed the roof of the Temple, a substantial brick structure. The insurances ore : —North British—£l4oo (portion of whichisreinsured), distributed as follows :—£looo on Roche’s stock, and £4OO on Hanan’s Temple of Science. Transatlantic—£lso on Rogers’ stock. .Transatlantic—£3oo on the Hibernian Hotel. Colonial—£7oo on the stock and furniture of the Hibernian Hotel, £3OO on Boche’s stock, £IOOO on the Temple of Science, £l5O on Baeside’s building ; total, £2150. Northern —£lso on Baeside’s shop. Liverpool, London, and Globe, £2OO on the Hibernian Hotel, £IOO on Campbell’s butchery, £BOO on Mrs Wilson’s stock and building. New Zealand—£looo on Boohe’s building and stock, £3OO on Hanan’s stock, and £SOO on Brown’s (draper) stock ; total, £IBOO, of which £3OO is reinsured in the Colonial, South British—£lso on Boche’s building. Total insurances so far os known, £7200.
