THE ELECTIONS.
[TUBBS ASSOCIATION TBLBOBAKS.J AUCKLAND, December 13. The scrutiny in the Franklyn North election in the interest of Mr Bnckland did not alter the majority of two for Major Harris. Declarations of the poll for City West, Eden, Parnell, and City East were made to-day. In the first three electorates the defeated candidates did not appear. Sir G. Grey made a lengthy speech at the City East declaration, stating that probably it would bo found that a majority of the men in Parliament were Liberals. Gentlemen put down on the lists as Ministerialists had sent him telegrams of an opposite character. Ho regretted the defeat of Mr DeLantonr, Mr J. T. Fisher, and Mr Ballance. He thought that_ a clean sweep should be made of the Ministry before the country would prosper or justice be done to the people. Mr J. M. Clark bitterly referred to the attempted personal violence to himself at the close of the poll by a section of Sir G. Grey’s followers, but acquitted Sir G. Grey of sanctioning or approving it. HAMILTON, December 13. The official declaration of the poll for Waipa to-day declared the majority in favor of Mr Whitaker to bo thirty.eight. All the candidates were present. POXTON, December 13. The official declaration of the poll was made to day Wilson, 379; Izard, 213; Bussell, 227; Bnller, 212 ; Newman, 199 ; France, 62. NEW PLYMOUTH, December 13. The Returning Officer officially declared the result of the polling for the town of New Plymouth. The numbers were —Kelly, 328; Brown, 179. Mr Kelly was the only candidate present. WELLINGTON, December 13. The complete returns for Tauranga electoral district give Captain Morris a majority of ten over Mr Q. V. Stewart. DUNEDIN, December 13. The following is the official declaration for Moeraki district, giving Mr McKenzie a majority!, of 299, instead of 291, as previously stated :—McKenzie, 464 ; Williams, 165 ; Murcott, 130. WANGANUI, December 13. The official declaration of the poll was made to-day. There was no alteration in the return, Mr'Watt being elected by a majority of four. WELLINGTON, December 13. Considerable excitement was caused in Wellington to-day by the announcement that the returning officer for Thorndon (Mr Hay) had commenced proceedings against the Hon. C. J. Pharazyn, M.L.G., for personation at the late election. Mr Pharazyn, it is alleged, voted twice—viz., at each of the two booths in the Thorndon district, which, under the 27'.h clause, is treated as personation. The penalty is imprisonment for any term not exceeding two years, with or without hard labor. There is no option of imposing a fine. Rumors are freely circulated of breaches of the Corrupt Practices Act having been committed during the elections in this city, and one of the candidates for Te Aro announces his intention of petitioning against the return of Mr C. Johnston for that seat.
