FIREWORKS DISPLAY AND TOROSLIGHT PROCESSION.

The Eire Brigade hare taken every precaution to ensure a yet more successful and brilliant display of fireworks this year than on any previous occasion. It will take place on the evening of the Anniversary Day in Hagley Park. Hitherto it has been the annual custom to provide the necessary funds by appealing to the public, but on this occasion the brigade, having sufficient funds to initiate the display, have abandoned this plan, and rely on the offerings of the public at the gates to supplement the balance in hand. The first item on the programme will be the fireworks display in the Park, after which the torchlight procession will form at the Carlton, proceeding from thence along Victoria street, Colombo street to the South belt, Manchester street, High street, Cashel street, and from thence along Colombo street to the Chester street station. Contingents have been invited from the Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Lyttelton, Ashburton, and Railway Brigades, thus giving promise of a larger torchlight procession than has yet been seen. As was the case last year, the tramoars will join the procession, with this difference—that instead of all the cars being in the van, they will be distributed at intervals throughout its length. Two bands have been engaged—viz., the Railway and Hamilton’s—so that there will be no lack of music. The display will comprise sixty items, viz.—
